Strength & Conditioning for Hockey Players
Victoria Wellness is pleased to offer a program specifically designed and conducted for hockey players. This tailored program is designed to increase strength, increase skaing power and speed and help to prevent hockey related injuries. With this program players will be exposed to:
- Functional Movement Screen – our base assessment system used for every athlete. We want to learn your needs prior to your first workout.
- Warm ups and exercise done specifically to help prevent hockey related injuries. Our aim is to keep you on the ice for the 2012/13 season.
- Improve your core stability and strength to gain and keep control of the puck from the opposing team players.
- Build strength and power. See your skaing speed increase. Player hits and shots harder.
- Sled training to develop crossover speed and stronger cuts.
- Train in a supportive, non-competitive environment. You are monitored and progressed to your abilities and goals.
This is what Grayson Vickers, Defense for Peninsula Panthers Jr B has to say about training at Victoria Wellness:
"I feel I am physically stronger, which has made me more able to clear the front of the net easily. After hitting or rubbing a guy out on the boards once, they think twice about coming closer later in the game"
"The sled training is awesome, but the difference it makes in skating has been awesome."
"I wouldn't be the player I am today without the training I receive at VWP. It's hard work, but it's fun too."
Comments from interested observers about Grayson's skating/playing since training at Victoria Wellness:
Watching his game from training camp to now, midway through the season. At training camp I couldn't believe the difference in his skating speed, especially his cross overs but now he is even more powerful of a skater. His shot speed has increased and is so hard that his teammates won't stand in front to tip the puck, they don't want to get hit. His play in front of the net was always good but the guys his size, now he can move all of them, without effort. His play along the boards has increased. He very seldom loses any puck battles.
No one can push him off the puck unless they run at him at speed. Even then a lot of these kids bounce off of him. I have had kids from other teams tell me that when Gray hit them or vise versa it was like hitting a brick wall, and they wonder what he has been doing.
