Growing up in the Fraser Valley, I spent my teenage and early adult years training and showing horses.  I then took an interest in weightlifting and competed as a bodybuilder from Novice to National level over a 15 year period.  I have always valued and appreciated my fitness and ability to train and enjoy an active lifestyle.

I worked for 10 years as a Registered Nurse in the Operating Room at Royal Jubilee Hospital.  I spent 5 years on the Open Heart Surgical Team and loved my work there.  But, I had always had a vision for owing and operating my own fitness studio.  I spent over 30 years training in various gyms and was always disappointed how many people, especially women, attempted to start a fitness program only to become discouraged and quit after a short period of time.

My vision was to provide an alternative to the big gyms that would encourage men and women to pursue a healthy lifestyle incorporating strength training and cardiovascular fitness into their lives.  I have united my passion for fitness and my nursing background to provide our clients with professional assistance to guide them.

Growing up in rural southwestern Ontario, I was the kid that played outdoors every possible moment in all four seasons.  Thanks also to my mother's persistence of playing team sports, once I gave fastball a shot I was hooked and more sports followed.   I was even lucky enough to attend a sports school in Norway when I was 17 and watch a few events at the '94 winter Olympics that same year.

Because of my participation in 2-3 competitive sports within a season I inevitably sustained a few injuries. And off to physiotherapy I went for rehabilitation.  This sparked my interest in the human body,  how it works,  how to trainand eat and even how injury effected me psychologically.

The field of healthcare is broad and I decided on Massage Therapy.   But in 5 years of practise I've never felt I was helping people improve their physical health, only providing temporary pain relief.   Something was lacking for me and my clients.  That's where training fits in perfectly.

Especially here At Victoria Wellness with the systematic approach for progressing clients through their workouts safely, effectively and efficiently.   Strength and fitness should be top  everyone's priority list for self care.  What's even better, we (trainers, RMT and you) work as a team when issues sometimes arise to figure the cause & effect and how best to help you.

Information  from the training floor enables me as the RMT to provide a focused treatment and I can give feedback on treatment findings so program adaptations can be made to your workouts.  As your trainer, I incorporate my knowledge of the muscles and massage to provide a safe and effective workout.

I am grateful and excited to work at Victoria Wellness with this exceptional team of professionals and clients. It's been an invigorating start and I look forward to a future filled with learning to help you in your fitness goals.

Growing up in Nanaimo I was very active, playing competitive basketball and softball throughout school. I completed my Bachelor of Science, major in Biology, at Malaspina University College (now VIU). After completing this degree, I obtained the personal training and group fitness certifications through the BCRPA. I moved to beautiful Victoria and spent four years working at a gym as a personal trainer and fitness instructor, teaching classes from spinning to boot camp. During this time, I realized that I wanted to have a more integral part of people’s well being and help relieve pain and discomfort. I realized there was more to a person’s health than just fitness and decided to pursue massage therapy.

I graduated from the Registered Massage Therapy program at the West Coast College of Massage Therapy in 2010. Through my time at WCCMT, my knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, injuries and biomechanics increased, greatly benifiting my knowledge as a trainer. My massage treatments consist of deep tissue and myofascial techniques as well as therapeutic exercise and relaxation. I enjoy treating those who are looking for therapeutic or relaxation benifits, including stress and pain reduction, women's health issues and injury repair.

I love spend time outside, at the beach and of course putting myself through challenging workouts! I am excited and proud to be part of the Victoria Wellness family and look forward to learning and growing with the company to provide it’s clients with the best training and massage possible.
